St. Matthew's Flower Guild

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the Flower Guild is to make sure that St. Matthew's Episcopal Church has beautiful flowers displayed to the Glory of God.

What We Do

Throughout the year, we create arrangements which we plan, condition and arrange ourselves. The Guild selects flowers and themes for floral arrangements that will define and enhance the message of each service. In order to accomplish that, the volunteers:

Order flowers or go to one of our wholesalers and select them. The volunteers also try to use flowers from generous parishioner's gardens, but often it is necessary to use a combination of all sources.

Condition flowers in preparation for arranging.

Decorate the church for special holidays and Holy days.

Care for all plants growing inside St. Matthew's.

Whenever possible, volunteers participate in floral design training classes

Attend the Annual Meeting held at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.

When asked, we are happy to help with weddings, funerals and other special occasions.

We take orders for Easter Lilies which are used to decorate the church until after Easter then parishioners either pick them up or donate them to area nursing homes. We then deliver them. During the Christmas season we do the same thing with poinsettias.

We alternate weeks caring for all live flowers.

These volunteers are kept very busy providing flowers for special seasons of the Church, holidays, and the very demanding requirements of Christmas and Easter. St. Matthew's Flower Guild is always looking for new volunteers. Experienced volunteers will work with newcomers so prior experience isn't necessary.

We invite any member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church to join us.
