Father Rick Putman

Father Rick (Full)Father Rick Putman joined St. Matthew’s as Associate Rector in September 2013 from St. Thomas in Birmingham.

Father Rick was born and raised in Birmingham, and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alabama in 1966. From 1966 to 1971, he served in the United States Air Force including, a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969 as a navigator on a B-52 Stratofortress.

Following his military service, Father Rick attended Seminary at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where he earned his Masters of Divinity in 1974. He did further graduate work at Emory University between 1974 and 1976. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1977.

His ministry work includes Curate, Canon to the Bishop for Religious Formation, College Chaplains at Birmingham Southern College and University of Alabama-Birmingham, parish Rector, and Associate Rector. His current pastoral focus includes guiding for spiritual exploration and discovery.

He has three daughters: Kimberlee, Mandi and Carly.

Father Rick completed his ministry at St. Matthew’s in October of 2014.
